About Children's Music Theater of Alamogordo

Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo is a performance group and an educational organization. Our participants and their families come from Otero and Lincoln Counties, including Alamogordo, Tularosa, La Luz, High Rolls, Cloudcroft, Mayhill, Ruidoso, and Holloman Air Force Base.

  • We help to fill the void left by many public, private, and home schools in music, arts, and most theater. CMToA provides some training and mentorship in art, drama, music, public speaking, civic responsibility, sewing, and construction (woodworking, painting, etc.) - educational tools that have been reduced or dropped by schools over the last several years.
  • Children and youth who would like to audition for a CMToA show are required to memorize a monologue and 30 seconds of a song to present on stage in front of peers and a casting committee, which teaches them to plan ahead, be prepared, and follow instructions.
  • Participants in our program are encouraged to join us in going out into the community to participate in beautification projects, parades, and local events, to help teach them civic responsibility.
  • Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo trains up children and youth into some leadership roles within the organization. CMToA’s current show choreographer is also a youth participant in the productions.
  • Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo provides a free performance of a part of our show to local school children, as a field trip opportunity for schools, which provides children who would not normally have any exposure to art, drama, theater, or music to be able to come see a truncated version of the CMToA show, which broadens their creative experience.
  • CMToA has recently started a scholarship program for youth who are aging out of our program, and are headed into higher education, trade school, or the military. CMToA awarded 4 “Teresa Ham Memorial Scholarships” to graduating seniors this year, will award 3 this year, and plans to continue growing this area of financial assistance to graduating students.

The Vision of Children's Music Theater of Alamogordo

Founded by Teresa Ham & Heather Bash in 2018, the vision of Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo is to bring art and theater literacy to young people in our community by giving them the experience of performing live theater, dance, and music onstage. We also strive to enrich their lives by giving them the opportunity to participate in the many varied aspects of theatrical performance (set construction, painting, props, stage make-up, costumes, etc.), giving them a positive creative outlet, teaching them public speaking skills, giving them the opportunity to build lasting friendships, and encouraging them to learn the value of hard work and teamwork.

Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo’s production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”

Step into the enchanted world of Broadway's classic, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, an international sensation that has been produced in 37 countries worldwide. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love, and be loved, the curse will end, and he will be transformed back into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, before the enchanted rose (given to him by the enchantress) loses all of its petals, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

Don’t miss this magical "tale as old as time!" Tickets are available now at the Flickinger Center. Opening night will include a princess photo opportunity in Patron’s Hall! Special concession stand Beauty and the Beast themed snack options will be available, and some very special merchandise will be for sale in the lobby. Please be our guest!
